PhD Studentship in Computational Chemistry and Semiconductors at University of Nottingham

The School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD studentship in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in computational modelling of next-generation semiconductors made from atomically thin materials. The research is part of a groundbreaking £6 million EPSRC Programme Grant aimed at reducing the energy demands of artificial intelligence through advancements in low-energy-consumption electronics. The selected PhD candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Elena Besley, collaborating with academic and industry partners to address scientific and technological challenges in atomically thin semiconductors. The studentship covers both tuition fees and a stipend for four years, and is available to eligible UK students. Applicants should hold or expect to obtain at least a 2.1 degree in Chemistry, Physics, or a related subject. Experience or interest in computational chemistry, theoretical chemistry, or materials science is highly desirable. There is no fixed deadline; applications will be considered on a rolling basis until a suitable candidate is found. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Prof Elena Besley for informal enquiries and to apply as soon as possible. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of chemistry, physics, materials science, and artificial intelligence.
