Human decision-making and AI interaction in engineering design

A fully funded PhD position is available at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, focusing on the intersection of human decision-making and artificial intelligence in the early stages of engineering design. The project is highly interdisciplinary, combining human-centred design, AI-driven decision support, cognitive science, and behavioural research. The successful candidate will join a strategic international collaboration between the University of Strathclyde and Politecnico di Milano, with additional involvement from the Co-Design Lab at UC Berkeley. Supervision will be provided by Dr. Andy TC Wong, Dr. Ross Brisco, Prof. Niccolò Becattini, Prof. Gaetano Cascini, and Dr. Kosa Goucher-Lambert, offering a unique opportunity to work with leading experts in engineering design and cognition. The research will equip the student with advanced skills in design theory, human-machine collaboration, and behavioural analysis. Applicants should have a strong background in engineering, design, computer science, cognitive science, or related fields, and be motivated to work in an international, interdisciplinary team. The position is fully funded, covering tuition and providing a stipend, with the application deadline set for July 31, 2025. Interested candidates should apply via the provided link and may contact Samuele Colombo for further information.
