Postdoctoral Research Associate in Deep Learning for Infant Movement Analysis (VISDOM-AI Project) at University of Glasgow

The University of Glasgow is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the VISDOM-AI project, which focuses on detecting infantile epileptic spasms from smartphone videos using advanced deep learning techniques. This interdisciplinary project is funded by the Epilepsy Research Institute and involves collaboration with clinical experts from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, as well as the Health Informatics Centre at the University of Dundee, providing a secure cloud computing platform for machine learning model development. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Shu-Lim Ho and Dr. Edmond S. L. Ho at the School of Computing Science. The role involves developing and evaluating deep learning models for analyzing infant movement, with a strong emphasis on computer vision, human motion analysis, and artificial intelligence. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful research at the intersection of computer science and medical science, aiming to improve early detection of neurological disorders in infants. This is a 13-month, full-time position (April 2026 - April 2027) with a competitive salary (Grade 7: £41,064 - £46,049 per annum) and comprehensive benefits, including generous leave, pension, and health and wellbeing support. The University of Glasgow is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and encourages applications from underrepresented groups. Visa sponsorship may be available for eligible international candidates. Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Deep Learning, or Human Motion Analysis. Essential skills include strong programming in Python, experience with deep neural networks (e.g., Graph Convolutional Networks), and experience analyzing human body movement from sensor data. Experience with cloud computing and Trusted Research Environments is desirable. Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK and may require a Skilled Worker visa. The application deadline is 4 March 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the University of Glasgow jobs portal. Informal inquiries can be directed to Dr. Shu-Lim Ho at [email protected].
