2 Full-Time Research and Teaching Assistant Positions in Political Science – Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences

The Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) is offering two full-time research and teaching assistant positions in political science within the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences. These roles are designed for candidates who wish to pursue a PhD while actively participating in teaching and research activities in the Department of Political Science. The successful applicants will join a vibrant academic environment, engaging with Bachelor and Master’s students through teaching, supervision, and exam grading, as well as contributing to administrative tasks and study fairs. Each position is structured as a dual role: 50% of the time is dedicated to teaching-related duties, and 50% to completing a doctoral dissertation. Teaching responsibilities span various sub-fields, including political theory, comparative politics, political sociology, international relations, and research methods. The department’s research units (CTP, CEVIPOL, REPI, CEPAP) offer opportunities for collaboration and academic development. The appointment is for two years, renewable twice, for a maximum of six years. Applicants must demonstrate strong research capabilities, evidenced by their academic background, master’s thesis, and a PhD research project submitted with the application. Pedagogical skills and interest in teaching are highly valued, as is the ability to communicate effectively in both French and English (minimum B2 proficiency required). Candidates must hold a Master’s degree (120 credits) in political science or an equivalent qualification, and/or meet the requirements to enroll in the PhD programme. Those who already possess a PhD are not eligible. The application process requires a CV, an application letter, a four-page PhD research project, and two letters of reference, all submitted using the official template. Incomplete applications or those not using the template will not be considered. For further information, applicants may contact Julien Jeandesboz, Chair of the Department of Political Science, at [email protected]. Applications are submitted online via the ULB portal, with a deadline of March 31, 2026, at 12:00 pm. ULB is committed to diversity and equal opportunities, recruiting candidates based on skills regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, origin, nationality, beliefs, or disability. Reasonable accommodations are available for candidates with disabilities, disorders, or illnesses. More information on gender and diversity policies, as well as regulations relating to research careers, can be found on the university’s website. This opportunity is ideal for aspiring academics seeking to combine doctoral research with teaching experience in a leading European institution. The positions offer a supportive environment for developing both research and pedagogical skills, with access to a wide range of political science sub-fields and research centers.
