PhD Positions in Sustainable Built Environment, Circular Economy, and BIM at University of Northern British Columbia
Two PhD student positions are available in the research lab of Dr. Mohammad Kamali, Assistant Professor at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), starting September 2026. The positions are focused on interrelated research fields including sustainable built environment, life cycle thinking, decision-making processes, circular economy, and Building Information Modeling (BIM). Candidates should have a strong background in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, or a closely related discipline.
The successful candidates will join the Natural Resources and Environmental Studies (NRES) PhD program at UNBC, which emphasizes interdisciplinary research integrating scientific, social, and human dimensions of natural resources and environmental issues. The program requires completion of core interdisciplinary courses, a graduate seminar, and a PhD thesis, with additional coursework as determined by the supervisory committee. Students must pass a qualifying exam, defend a thesis proposal, and complete and defend their dissertation.
Applicants are expected to have a Master’s degree with a strong academic record (minimum GPA of 3.33 or B+), research experience, and a demonstrated interest in innovative research.
