PhD Position in Supply Chain Management at Rotterdam School of Management (RSM)

The Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) at Erasmus University Rotterdam invites applications for a fully-funded PhD position in Supply Chain Management within the ERIM Business Processes, Logistics, and Information Systems (LIS) group. This doctoral program is designed to advance both methodological and theoretical knowledge in supply chain management, logistics, and related fields. As a PhD candidate, you will join one of the largest and most productive SCM research groups in Europe, with over 30 faculty members and a consistent top-3 ranking in research output. The program offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment with research topics spanning machine learning for logistics, data-driven retail operations, inclusive decision-making, circular economy ecosystems, business model innovation, demand estimation in competitive markets, and platform operations. Candidates are encouraged to select three topics of interest from a diverse list, including machine learning for stochastic last-mile deliveries, data-driven retail operations, inclusive decision-making, collaborative value creation in circular economy ecosystems, designing circular business models, estimating true customer demand, and flexibility in platform operations. Each topic is supervised by a dedicated faculty member, and candidates are welcome to reach out to them for further discussion. The research approach is multi-methodological, employing mathematical modeling, optimization, statistical analysis, surveys, case studies, and experiments. The program emphasizes both scientific and societal relevance, with strong ties to industry partners such as Albert Heijn, CoolBlue, DHL, DSM, Philips, Port of Rotterdam, and others. PhD candidates are encouraged to undertake research visits to leading international universities and participate in major conferences. The position is fully funded and salaried, with employment as a university employee and a monthly salary in accordance with Dutch university standards.
