PhD in Fire Performance of Low-Carbon Concrete Materials at Ulster University

Ulster University is offering a fully funded PhD opportunity within the FireSERT research group, focusing on the fire performance of alternative, low-carbon concrete materials. The project, titled "Evaluating the Fire Performance of Alternative Cementitious Material (ACM)-Based Concrete for Sustainable and Resilient Construction," aims to advance sustainable construction practices by investigating innovative cementitious materials that reduce carbon emissions while maintaining or improving fire safety and structural resilience. Supervised by Naveed Alam, Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Civil Engineering, the successful candidate will join a supportive and dynamic research environment. The research will involve experimental and analytical work to assess the fire resistance and durability of novel concrete mixes, contributing to the development of safer and more sustainable building materials. The project is ideal for students with a background in civil engineering, materials science, or related disciplines, and an interest in sustainable construction and fire safety. The position is fully funded, covering tuition fees and providing a stipend for living expenses, and is open to both UK and international applicants. Candidates should hold a good undergraduate or master's degree (2:1 or above or equivalent) and meet Ulster University's English language requirements.
