King's College London is recruiting a Clinical Research Fellow for a fully funded PhD opportunity in the Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies. The position focuses on cutting-edge research in Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) and stromal cell therapy, supervised by Professor Philip Newsome and Dr Tom Marjot. The Institute is a leading center for liver research, integrating discovery science, clinical implementation, and patient engagement, with over £30 million in active funding and a large multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will join a vibrant research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and clinical programs at King's College Hospital, one of the largest liver services globally. Research areas include steatotic liver disease, cirrhosis, hepatobiliary neoplasia, regeneration and transplantation, and rare pediatric diseases. The post includes a clinical component, with outpatient work under Prof Newsome's supervision, and is suitable for specialty trainees in hepatology aiming for an academic career. Applicants must have an MBChB/MBBS or equivalent, GMC registration, and clinical experience in hepatology. Research experience, strong communication and computing skills, and the ability to meet deadlines are required. Desirable qualifications include an intercalated BSc and prior publications. The fellowship offers a competitive salary (£38,831–£73,992 plus London allowance), full funding for three years, and opportunities for professional development in translational medicine and liver research. To apply, candidates should submit a CV and supporting statement via the King's College London job portal, addressing the essential and desirable criteria. Informal inquiries are welcome via email to the supervisors. The closing date is 4 January 2026, with interviews scheduled for late November/early December. The post is subject to standard clearances. This is an excellent opportunity for motivated clinicians to advance their research careers in hepatology and contribute to impactful studies in MASLD and liver therapy.
