Fully Funded PhD in Usability Framework for Verifiable Credentials (Cybersecurity, Human-Computer Interaction)

CSIRO's Data61, in collaboration with Deakin University and Bupa, is offering a fully funded PhD position focused on developing a Usability Framework for Verifiable Credentials. This research opportunity is ideal for candidates passionate about digital identity, cybersecurity, and usability. The project aims to address the usability challenges of verifiable credentials (VC), an emerging decentralized identity management solution designed to improve privacy and security over traditional systems. Despite the benefits of VC, adoption remains low due to perceived complexity and usability issues. The successful candidate will evaluate current VC solutions and create a framework to guide the development of more user-friendly VC technologies, ensuring security and privacy are not compromised. The PhD student will work at the intersection of human-computer interaction, cybersecurity, and emerging digital standards, contributing to solutions that will shape the future of digital trust. The primary location is Deakin University, Burwood campus, Melbourne, with industry engagement at Bupa and research collaboration with CSIRO's Data61. The supervisory team includes Professor Robin Doss (Deakin University), Marthie Grobler (CSIRO's Data61), and Ad Wolst (Bupa). Applicants should hold a relevant higher education research degree (Honours or Masters) in information systems or computer science, possess excellent communication skills, and ideally have industry experience and a record of publishing research. The position is fully funded, covering tuition and providing a stipend. Applications are open until the position is filled.
