Description
The NUS Amgen Scholars Program 2026 is a prestigious, fully funded summer research opportunity for undergraduate students across Asia, hosted by the National University of Singapore (NUS). This 8-week program is designed for students interested in biomedical research, biological sciences, biotechnology, and related fields. Participants will conduct hands-on research in world-class laboratories at NUS, guided by experienced faculty and research staff from departments such as Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology and Immunology.
The program runs from June 2 to July 31, 2026, in Singapore, followed by a 3-day Amgen Scholars Asia Symposium in Tokyo, Japan (August 4–6, 2026). Scholars will receive a generous stipend (SGD 6,000), travel grants (up to SGD 1,500 for international scholars), free on-campus accommodation, and visa application fee coverage. Local scholars receive similar benefits, including round-trip flights to Japan for the symposium. All participants must arrange their own health and travel insurance.
Eligibility is limited to undergraduate students enrolled in Asian universities awarding bachelor’s degrees in relevant disciplines. Applicants must have completed at least their first year, not be graduating before the program, and plan to resume studies afterward. A strong academic record and proficiency in English are required; non-native speakers must provide standardized test scores or proof of English-medium instruction. The program is ideal for students considering graduate studies or a research career in biology, biomedical engineering, or medical science.
Participants are expected to fully engage in laboratory work, attend seminars, participate in social and academic events, and present their research at the symposium. Projects are assigned based on a ranking system after selection, and students should not contact potential supervisors directly. The program offers a unique opportunity to network with leading scientists, explore graduate program options, and experience research in a vibrant international setting.
Applications open November 1, 2025, and close February 1, 2026. Prospective applicants should review the application checklist, prepare all required documents, and submit their application online. After submission, follow the instructions in the confirmation email to upload documents and ensure referees submit their letters on time. For more information, visit the program website or contact [email protected].
Funding
The program is fully funded. International scholars receive a stipend of SGD 6,000 for 8 weeks, a travel grant up to SGD 1,500 (covering travel between home country, Singapore, and Japan), free accommodation on the NUS campus, and visa application fees covered. Local scholars receive the same stipend, free accommodation, and round-trip flights to Japan for the symposium. Health and travel insurance are not provided and must be arranged by the student.
