Theoretical Particle Physics: Applications of Gauge-Gravity Dualities to New Physics Models with Composite Origin Swansea University in United Kingdom

This fully funded PhD studentship at Swansea University offers an exciting opportunity to work in the interdisciplinary field of theoretical particle physics, focusing on the applications of gauge-gravity dualities (also known as holography) to new physics models with a composite origin. The project aims to explore strongly coupled theories relevant to particle physics and cosmology, using advanced formal tools from string theory and supergravity. Candidates will engage in both analytical and numerical calculations to investigate observable quantities in proposals for extending the Standard Model.

The research will be conducted within the Centre for Quantum Fields and Gravity, a world-leading group at Swansea University’s Singleton Campus. The centre provides a vibrant, international, and interdisciplinary environment, with approximately forty researchers, regular seminars, journal clubs, and extensive training opportunities. The project is supervised by Professors Maurizio Piai and Carlos Nunez, both experts in theoretical physics.

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree at 2.1 level or a master’s degree with a minimum overall grade at ‘Merit’ (or Non-UK equivalent as defined by Swansea University). English language proficiency is required, with IELTS 6.5 overall (no component below 6.0) or a recognised equivalent. Some applicants may need ATAS clearance, but this is not required for the scholarship application process.
