About this position

Excited to announce this PhD vacancy on Agent-based modelling for reconstructing histories of culture & language! The fully-funded PhD position is part of a collaborative project between Faculty of Geosciences (Utrecht University) (Derek Karssenberg, Sietze Norder and me) and Leiden Centre for Linguistics (Rik Van Gijn and Nicholas Emlen) to understand the interplay between the biophysical environment and the social processes of diversification to explain the patterns of linguistic diversity we see today. Find more information here: https://lnkd.in/dsdp_WTu. Application deadline ?? is October 21.Do you enjoy spatio-temporal modelling of human-environment systems? Are you intrigued by historic development of, and interactions between, distinctive historical cultural groups? Do you wonder why at some places on earth a wide variation of languages is being spoken and at other places only a single one? Would you like to build an agent-based simulation model to answer this question? Then this job at Utrecht University may be for you!…more
