We have more ideas than capacity... here are some topics that we would love to host PhDs on this year. Here are my top 3 picks, I am open to exciting alternative suggestions within our research interests;
I: behaviour of nanoplastics in membrane filtration (detection, deposition and removal of dissolved organics)
II: micropollutant degradation (incl PFAS) in photo- and electrocatalysis
III: process integration of ozonation and membrane filtration
For the application process there are many previous posts, in a nutshell
- applications should be emailed to myself (no LinkedIn messages) with a professional/thoughtful email/cover note
- read the IAMT research skills coachings, specifically RSC1 how to apply for PhD, RSC2 PhD expectations and RSC4 how to write a PhD proposal: see https://lnkd.in/epiAn-8N
- Note we have an open offer for a PhD proposal writing course starting this week.
Once the required documents are complete I will assess and if I sense there is a fit and genuine interest we start talking. Understandably, most candidates want direct funding for reasons of convenience - I like candidates willing to walk the extra mile to look for scholarships (DAAD, CSC, etc) and independent enough to drive a car. This makes me much more positive towards offering backup funding. IAMT offers a brilliant research environment, a superb international team (we speak English only) and we need candidates willing to go the extra mile to contribute. As I spend a lot of my time giving very thorough feedback to enable learning, I enjoy working with candidates willing to learn such that the journey together is career enhancing, making a contribution to our world and fun (yes, the suffering is inevitable in a PhD anyhow, that's part of the deal ??).
