About this position

The Katayev Lab at the University of Bern is recruiting two fully funded PhD candidates and a postdoctoral researcher to join their team in the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The research focuses on organic synthesis, catalysis, and the development of innovative methodologies using visible light, electrochemistry, and mechanochemistry. PhD projects will explore molecular architecture and catalytic platforms for functional group transfer, with one position emphasizing sustainable energy inputs and the other mechanochemistry.

The lab offers a collaborative, supportive environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure. PhD applicants should have a background in organic chemistry and an interest in reaction design, catalysis, radical chemistry, and sustainable synthesis.

Experience in photochemistry, electrochemistry, mechanochemistry, or computational chemistry is a plus but not required. Postdoctoral candidates should have a strong publication record in synthetic mechanochemistry, leadership skills, and excellent English proficiency. Funding for PhD positions is provided by the SNSF & SNSF BRIDGE DISCOVERY programs, while postdocs may apply for Swiss fellowships.

Applications are accepted until positions are filled. Interested candidates should email Prof. Dmitry Katayev with the required documents.

The University of Bern is located in Switzerland and offers a vibrant research community.
