About this position

PhD vacancy: Nature-based design with the tube-building polychaete Lanice conchilega. We are hiring a new PhD student with a MSc in Civil, Hydraulic, Coastal, Ocean or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent), with sufficient background in fluid mechanics and hydraulics, with a keen interest in coastal sediment transport and its numerical modelling, including programming of new modules in Mixt3SedFoam and TELEMAC. The core challenge is to predict the loss of hydrodynamic energy by biogenic reefs created by the sand mason worm Lanice conchilega.The candidate will work on the VLAIO/Blue Cluster funded Strategic Basic Research project Coastbuster – LANICE (2024-2028), consisting of a consortium with ILVO (coordinator), VLIZ and Flanders Hydraulics.
