The University of Liverpool Management School is offering fully funded Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs) for PhD students in Accounting and Finance, starting October 2026. These prestigious 4-year fellowships provide comprehensive financial support, including a £20,780 annual maintenance grant (subject to change), full coverage of PhD programme fees, and additional allowances such as a £700 per year GTF allowance from Year 2 and access to the Conference Support Scheme. Fellows will also receive formal higher education teacher training and gain valuable teaching experience, preparing them for academic careers.

As a GTF, you will pursue your doctoral research while engaging in a fixed number of teaching hours, supported by a structured teacher training programme in your first year. This includes shadowing and mentored classroom involvement, leading to a formal HE teaching qualification. Research areas for the PhD include asset pricing, empirical performance evaluation, investment technology and ethics, financial econometrics, machine learning, corporate finance, governance, transparency, sustainability, CSR, ESG, international financial markets, monetary policy, time series analysis, FinTech, payment technologies, AI in financial services, and big data integration in finance.

Applicants must hold a UK master's degree or international equivalent in accounting and finance or a related discipline, preferably at merit or above, and demonstrate strong quantitative and programming skills. A robust research proposal is required, and candidates should prepare supporting documents including transcripts, certificates, personal statement (with 'ULMS-GTF-2026 studentship' in the title), CV, and referee details. International applicants must also provide passport and English language certificates.

Applications are submitted online via the University of Liverpool portal, selecting the 'Accounting and Finance – Doctor in Philosophy (PhD)' programme and indicating 'ULMS-GTF-2026' as the funding source. The deadline for round one applications is 2 January 2026 at 5pm UK time. After submission, applicants will receive an email acknowledgment and further instructions. The selection process considers research fit, academic specialisation, and teaching potential, with interviews for shortlisted candidates. Final decisions are communicated before the second funding call in spring.

GTFs are compatible with external bursaries and other postgraduate research funds offered by the Management School, but not with other studentships such as those from the North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership or the China Scholarship Council.
