About this position
[Full tuition fees and annual maintenance stipend of £20,780 per year (2025/26 rate, subject to change) for four years. Includes Higher Education teacher training and teaching experience.] The University of Liverpool Management School is offering four-year fully funded Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs) for PhD students in Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Management, starting in October 2026. These prestigious fellowships provide a comprehensive package including a full tuition fee waiver and an annual maintenance stipend of £20,780 (2025/26 rate, subject to change), as well as formal Higher Education teacher training and practical teaching experience. GTF recipients will pursue their doctoral research while also engaging in a fixed number of teaching hours, gaining valuable pedagogical skills and a formal HE teaching qualification.
In the first year, fellows complete a short teacher training programme, including mentored classroom involvement, to prepare for academic careers. The remainder of the PhD is dedicated to research and thesis completion, with continued opportunities for teaching practice. The fellowships are open to full-time PhD students worldwide.
Applicants for Accounting and Finance or Economics must hold a UK master’s degree or international equivalent in a relevant discipline, preferably at merit or above, and demonstrate strong quantitative and programming skills. Management applicants require a master’s in a business and management discipline. All candidates must submit a robust research proposal in one of the specified areas, such as asset pricing, corporate finance, financial econometrics, machine learning, macroeconomics, political economy, marketing, supply chain management, and more.
Applicants are encouraged to suggest potential supervisors and may contact the relevant Directors of Studies for guidance. The application process involves registering and applying online by 2 January 2026 (5pm UK time), submitting a research proposal, and, if shortlisted, attending an interview. Final decisions will be communicated before spring 2026. The GTFs are designed to launch academic careers by combining research excellence with teaching development in a vibrant, supportive environment at the University of Liverpool.
