Fully Funded PhD in Plant Omics & Cell Biology – CherrySCOPE (Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology) Institute of Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources, ELGO–DIMITRA in Greece

A fully funded PhD position is available at the Institute of Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources (ELGO–DIMITRA, Thessaloniki, Greece) as part of the CherrySCOPE project, focusing on the molecular and cellular regulation of the fruit–pedicel abscission zone in sweet cherry. The research integrates multi-omics and cell-based approaches to understand the mechanisms governing fruit detachment, supporting innovative and sustainable harvesting strategies. The project is funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I./ELIDEK) and offers a multidisciplinary and international research environment with collaborations in Germany, Spain, Italy, and the UK.

The doctoral research will cover molecular and cellular regulation of the abscission zone, coordination with fruit development, and integration of transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, and cellular datasets. Training includes state-of-the-art methodologies such as multi-omics analyses, cellular and histological analysis, and isolation of protoplasts and nuclei for molecular applications.

Applicants should hold or be near completion of an MSc in Agronomy, Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field, with strong interest in plant molecular and cellular biology and excellent English skills. Experience with plant molecular/biochemical techniques and biological data analysis is desirable. The position offers full funding, enrollment in a Greek PhD program, interdisciplinary training, access to advanced research infrastructure, and opportunities for international mobility and collaboration.
