Fully Funded PhD Positions in Economics at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) Jönköping University in Sweden

Jönköping International Business School (JIBS), part of Jönköping University, is inviting applications for two fully funded, full-time PhD positions in Economics, commencing 1 September 2026. JIBS is renowned for its international, entrepreneurial, and responsible approach to business education and research, holding triple crown accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA) and ranking among the top European business schools. PhD students will join the Department of Economics, Finance, and Statistics, engaging in advanced coursework, independent research, and departmental duties such as teaching. The research environment is enriched by specialized centres including the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Spatial Economics (CEnSE), the Centre for Family Enterprise and Ownership (CeFEO), and the Media, Management and Transformation Centre (MMTC). Research areas span urban and regional economics, applied microeconomics, macroeconomics, public policy, and finance, providing diverse opportunities for academic development.

The positions are fully funded for up to five years, contingent on annual progress reviews, and include a competitive salary and employee benefits such as parental leave and pension contributions. The structured PhD curriculum features both mandatory and elective courses, and students can participate in SWEGPEC, a collaborative Swedish Graduate Programme in Economics, which offers joint coursework, workshops, and annual doctoral events. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent), have completed at least 240 ECTS credits (including 60 at the Master’s level), with at least 90 ECTS in Economics and 15 ECTS in Statistics. Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is essential. The school seeks highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in rigorous and practically relevant research, and welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds. Research interests aligned with JIBS’s centres or faculty strengths are advantageous but not required.
