About this position

The International Max Planck Research School for Epigenetics, Biophysics and Metabolism (IMPRS-EBM) is now accepting applications for fully funded PhD positions. This joint program between the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology & Epigenetics and the University of Freiburg offers interdisciplinary training in epigenetics, biophysics, metabolism, cell biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, functional genomics, and proteomics. Students will work at the forefront of research, exploring gene regulation and epigenetic mechanisms using molecular biology, biophysical, and computational approaches.

PhD candidates benefit from employment contracts that include social security, health insurance, retirement insurance, and 30 vacation days per year. There are no tuition fees, and additional funding is available for career development activities such as conferences and external training. The program features a structured curriculum, lab rotations in three different laboratories, tailored mentoring from group leaders and a Thesis Advisory Committee, and access to world-class core facilities.

Applicants must have an MSc, MRes, Diploma, or equivalent degree in Biology, Biomedicine, Chemistry, Physics, or a related science, with practical laboratory experience and excellent English language skills. The program is highly international and welcomes motivated students eager to work in a dynamic team environment.

The application portal opens on 15 December 2025 and closes on 6 February 2026.
