About this position
Exciting fully funded PhD positions are available at the High Power Electronics Lab (HiPEL) at McMaster University, Canada, under the supervision of Prof. Mehdi Narimani. HiPEL is a leading research group specializing in power electronics, energy systems, and power systems, with strong collaborations in electrified transportation, industrial motor drives, and power distribution. The research focus includes the design and modeling of power converters (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC), control of multilevel converters, and hardware design and experimental validation.
Applicants should have a BSc or MASc in Electrical Engineering with a minimum GPA of B+ (77–79%) or higher. Preferred qualifications include a strong understanding of power converter topologies and control, familiarity with PID and similar controllers, experience with multilevel converters, PCB design, CAD tools, and proficiency with microcontrollers. Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, LTspice/PSpice, Altium, Ansys EDT, hardware prototyping, testing, validation, and communication protocols (CAN, MODBUS) is desired. Familiarity with dSPACE control platforms is a bonus.
The positions are fully funded, offering an excellent opportunity to work on next-generation multilevel converters and power electronic systems. Students will join a dynamic team and contribute to high-impact research in the future of MV drives and advanced converter technologies.
To apply, send your CV, a 1–2 page summary of your most relevant project(s), and university transcript(s) and degree certificate to [email protected]. For more information, visit the LinkedIn post or contact the lab directly.
