About this position

The Ulster University School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences is inviting final applications for its 2026/27 PhD Studentship Competition. There are six fully funded PhD positions available, each supervised by leading academics in the field. The research topics span a diverse range of cutting-edge areas, including alleviating hypoxia for enhanced cancer therapy, sustainable practices in community pharmacy, development of low-cost materials to mitigate algal blooms, pharmacist-led medicines optimisation in metabolic care, F-gas free ultrasound contrast agents for diagnostics and therapeutics, and AI-augmented rapid determination of G-quadruplex structures from sparse NMR data.

Supervisors for these projects include Professor Anthony McHale, Dr Kingston Rajiah, Dr Heather Coleman, Dr Ruoyin Luo, Professor John Callan, and Dr Mateus Webba Da Silva, all affiliated with Ulster University in the UK. The school is recognized for its excellence in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, providing a supportive and innovative research environment.

Applicants should hold or expect to obtain a first or upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject such as pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biology, or a related discipline. Strong academic performance, research experience, and English language proficiency (IELTS or equivalent) are required. The studentships are fully funded, covering tuition fees and providing a stipend for the duration of the PhD program.

The application deadline is 4pm GMT, 27 February 2026. Interviews will be held between 23 March and 3 April 2026, with the preferred start date being 14 September 2026. For more information and to apply, visit www.ulster.ac.uk/phdcomp. Prospective students are encouraged to contact the listed supervisors for project-specific queries and to ensure all supporting documents are included in their application.
