The Processing & Physical Metallurgy Laboratory (PPM Lab) at the University of Nevada, Reno, led by Dr. Ming Chen, is seeking a fully funded postdoctoral researcher in the field of metallic materials processing and metallurgy. The research will focus on advanced fabrication techniques, including powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing, with the goal of designing and producing metals and alloys with engineered microstructures and enhanced properties for structural and energy-related applications.
The successful candidate will conduct comprehensive characterization of materials to evaluate their performance under relevant service conditions. Characterization tasks include mechanical property evaluation, microstructural analysis, assessment of microstructural stability under thermal and/or mechanical loading, and multi-scale testing under coupled environmental or extreme conditions. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to contribute to experimental design, data analysis, high-impact journal publications, and proposal development.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related discipline. Strong research capability, a good publication record, and hands-on experimental skills and/or modeling experience relevant to the lab’s research directions are required.
