A funded M.S. graduate research assistantship is available in the rangeland ecology lab of Dr. Georgia Harrison at Montana State University (Bozeman, MT). The research focuses on integrated management strategies for invasive annual grasses in the northern Great Plains, specifically evaluating combinations of prescribed fire and herbicide treatments (indaziflam) to control invasive annual grasses and promote native vegetation recovery in eastern Montana rangelands. The project is conducted in collaboration with USDA-ARS Fort Keogh, MSU Extension, and regional land managers.

The student will lead a field-based research project, monitor plant community composition, cover, and biomass, evaluate treatment effects, and analyze data to communicate results to scientific and management audiences. Responsibilities include field sampling, supervising undergraduate assistants, managing and analyzing ecological data, manuscript preparation, and engaging with land managers and Extension partners.

Applicants must have a B.S. in rangeland ecology, ecology, natural resources, environmental science, or a related field, with interest in applied rangeland management and field-based research. Preferred qualifications include experience with vegetation sampling or plant identification, data analysis in R, and interest in prescribed fire or invasive species management. The position offers a graduate stipend of $30,000 annually and opportunities to gain experience in rangeland ecology, field experimentation, invasive species management, and applied research with land managers.
