About this position

The Graduate School of Frontier Science Initiative at Kanazawa University in Japan offers a unique interdisciplinary PhD program designed for highly motivated candidates seeking to become future research leaders. The program spans a diverse range of cutting-edge disciplines, including Life Science and Biotechnology, Neuroscience, Chemistry and Applied Chemistry, Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Cognitive Science. Students are encouraged to engage in cross-boundary collaboration, pioneering new academic frontiers through the fusion of diverse fields.

The graduate school is organized into two specialized divisions: the Division of Transdisciplinary Sciences and the Division of Nano Life Science. The Division of Transdisciplinary Sciences integrates disciplines such as humanities, science, engineering, medicine, and health sciences, fostering the creation of novel academic fields and transformative technologies. Faculty expertise covers cognitive science, medicine, pharmaceutical science, health sciences, physics, chemistry, biology, biotechnology, mechanical engineering, and electronics, providing a dynamic environment for students who aspire to transcend traditional academic boundaries.

The Division of Nano Life Science focuses on interdisciplinary research at the nanometer scale, combining nanotechnology, chemistry, and life sciences. Research activities range from fundamental science, such as advanced nanometrology and atomic force microscopy, to clinical applications like cancer diagnosis and precision medicine. The division is supported by the Nano Life Science Institute (NanoLSI), part of Japan’s World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI), offering students access to state-of-the-art facilities and global research networks.
