About this position

The University of Santiago de Compostela’s CIMUS Biomedical Research Institute is offering fully funded International PhD Contracts for early-stage researchers in the fields of neurobiology and metabolic organ biology. This four-year predoctoral contract, funded by the Spanish State Research Agency, is designed to foster the comprehensive development of doctoral candidates through advanced research, international mobility, and professional training.

The PhD project aims to bridge metabolic organ biology and neural control, focusing on how local neural circuits regulate liver physiology and disease. The research will be conducted in a vibrant academic environment, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and regular seminars led by international experts in biomedical sciences. The programme includes workshops, mentoring, and opportunities for scientific outreach, such as conferences and the annual CiMUS Workshop.

Selected candidates will receive an annual gross salary starting at €19,007.24 for the first two years, increasing to €20,364.96 in the third year and €25,456.06 in the fourth year. An additional €7,000 is provided to support research stays at other R&D institutions, and all PhD programme tuition fees are fully covered. The contract also requires a mandatory international research stay of at least three months.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in biological sciences or a related field, or be able to obtain it by the contract start date. A strong academic and scientific-technical track record is essential, including academic performance, publications, and relevant research experience. Candidates should demonstrate mobility, internationalization, and competencies in technical, analytical, computational, and linguistic skills. Good English proficiency is required, and eligibility for enrolment in an official doctoral programme in Spain by October 2026 is mandatory. Motivation statements and reference letters are also required.

To apply, submit your application by email to Dr Ashwin Woodhoo at [email protected], ensuring all required documents are included. For further details, visit the official group page or the EURAXESS position listing.
