About this position

PhD and teaching opportunity at the University of Plymouth ! ?? ?? ?? ?? My research and research-led teaching programme on fauna of surf zones in Devon and Cornwall is entering its eighth year. The work aims to understand environmental factors driving variation in fish populations which support key UK fisheries.

We’re looking for a PhD candidate to drive forward this research and teaching effort over the next few years: one of 11 being advertised within the School of Biological and Marine Sciences.

The project is an exciting opportunity to build and publish a unique long-term ecological data set through field sampling. It also provides lots of scope to develop expertise in lab approaches to understand variation in physiological performance of fishes within dynamic coastal habitats. These skills are valuable for building the evidence-base to support sustainable management of fisheries.

I am excited to work with Bryce Stewart (also at The Marine Biological Association ) who brings expertise in fisheries applications and Mike Collins who will be shedding some light on the crustacean inhabitants of beaches.

Alongside research activities will be the opportunity to develop substantial teaching experience across the wide range of programmes and modules in the school.

Beaches make the perfect natural classroom for marine biology—come join us!
