The Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics and Radiation Metrology is a two-year advanced training programme jointly organized by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the University of Trieste, Italy. This programme is designed for young, promising graduates in physics or related fields, primarily from developing countries, who wish to gain postgraduate theoretical and clinical training in medical physics or radiation metrology. The goal is to prepare candidates to become recognized clinical medical physicists or radiation metrologists in their home countries.

The curriculum includes a first year of intensive coursework in topics such as anatomy, physiology, radiation oncology, medical imaging, dosimetry, nuclear medicine, and radiation protection, all taught in English. The second year focuses on professional clinical training in a medical physics department of an Italian hospital or practical training in a Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL) for the Radiation Metrology track. The programme is supported by international organizations including the IAEA, IOMP, EFOMP, and AIFM, and is accredited by the International Organisation for Medical Physics (IOMP).

Applicants must have a degree equivalent to an MSc in physics or a related field, be generally under 30 years old, and demonstrate proficiency in English. Selection is based on academic performance, research activity, professional experience, and recommendation letters. The programme is open to candidates from countries that are members of the United Nations, UNESCO, or IAEA, with a focus on developing countries. Pre-selected candidates may be required to provide documentation of degree equivalence and participate in a virtual interview.

Funding is available for a limited number of candidates from developing countries, with full scholarships covering travel, university fees, and a monthly stipend, and partial scholarships covering some costs.
