Based at the National Diamond Light Source Facility, and under world-class academic supervision from Imperial College this is a unique chance to contribute to the development of sustainable hydrogen technologies!

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher to join our team at Imperial Materials for a fully funded PhD position on 'Investigating Fuel Cell and Electrolyser Catalysts under operating conditions using Synchrotron Radiation'.

?? Project: The student will be based at Diamond Light Source , UK's national synchrotron facility, and will also work closely with industrial partner Johnson Matthey . This PhD project will employ ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy, alongside a number of more conventional laboratory techniques, to investigate the surface chemistry of fuel cell and electrolyser catalysts under working conditions. A key objective is to understand how to maintain high catalytic activity across a wide range of operating conditions. The student will design and develop a dedicated electrochemical cell to study complex electrocatalysts under realistic conditions.

????? Supervision: The project will be jointly supervised by myself, Georg Held , Santosh Kumar Biradar ( Diamond Light Source ) and Tugçe Eralp Erden ( Johnson Matthey ).
