The Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Oslo Metropolitan University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship under the EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions European Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF) 2026. This opportunity is designed for researchers interested in the transformation of journalism and media, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and cooperative innovations in journalistic production and dissemination. The position is externally funded and offers a vibrant academic environment in Norway’s third largest university, located in the heart of Oslo.

OsloMet’s Department of Journalism and Media Studies is internationally recognized for its research and education in journalism, photojournalism, and media communication. The department’s research activities span national, European, and global journalism, including topics such as fake news, media innovation, war and conflict, and cross-disciplinary methodologies. The successful candidate will join the research group Transform, which conducts cutting-edge research on journalism, media engagement, and interdisciplinary practice, collaborating across fields such as art, communication, drama, media production, product development, social anthropology, human geography, and other humanities disciplines.

The fellowship focuses on the evolving interplay between journalism and emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT). Candidates are encouraged to propose projects that explore alternative collaborations and co-productions between journalism and interdisciplinary partners, especially during crises or war. Key research themes include AI-driven transformation of investigative journalism, bias and transparency in AI and OSINT, and innovative research methodologies such as ethnography, social anthropology, and action research. The role of technology in ensuring the safety of journalists across borders is also a priority.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Journalism, Media Communication, Social Sciences, Humanities, or related fields by June 2026, with no more than eight years of research experience since their PhD award (exceptions for career breaks and reintegration apply). Candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Norway for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the call deadline. Relocation to Oslo is required; teleworking is not permitted. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong understanding of journalism and communication, interest in AI technologies, robust methodological skills, an excellent research track record, and proficiency in English.

Supervision will be provided by Professor Maria Konow-Lund, a former Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow, with support from OsloMet’s research support team. Selected candidates will participate in a virtual MSCA-PF masterclass workshop to prepare their application in line with EU Commission requirements. The fellowship offers a gross annual salary of approximately EUR 70,000, inclusive of tax and national insurance contributions, as well as relocation assistance, onboarding support, Norwegian language classes, and access to a unique academic network. Employment is full-time and temporary, with flexible start dates between April 2027 and September 2028.
