About this position

The University of Luxembourg is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the Developmental and Cellular Biology Group, led by Prof. Jens Schwamborn, at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB). The LCSB is an interdisciplinary research center focused on systems biology and biomedicine, with a particular emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

The center brings together scientists from diverse backgrounds, including computer science, mathematics, biology, chemistry, engineering, and clinical disciplines, fostering a truly interdisciplinary environment. The successful candidate will work on projects at the interface of systems biology and biomedical research, specifically utilizing human stem cells to model neurodegenerative diseases in vitro.

The main focus will be on developing novel, complex organoid and assembloid models of the human brain, with Parkinson's disease as the primary disease model. The project will investigate the role of aged microglia in Parkinson's disease, contributing to a deeper understanding of disease mechanisms and potential therapeutic approaches. Applicants should have a strong background in human stem cell research and proven experience in at least one of the following areas: high content imaging, multi electrode array technology, or reprogramming of somatic cells into pluripotency.

Experience in computational image analysis and aging research is highly desirable. The position requires a motivated individual who is willing to take leadership and responsibility for a demanding project and who is eager to acquire new skills as part of an international team. The University of Luxembourg offers a modern, dynamic, and international research environment with high-quality equipment and close ties to both the business world and the Luxembourg labor market.

The position is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 24 months, based at the Belval Campus. The yearly gross salary for postdoctoral researchers is EUR 85,176. The university promotes an inclusive culture and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.

To apply, candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, and the names and addresses of referees through the university's online HR system. Early application is encouraged, as applications will be processed upon receipt. Applications by email will not be considered. The application deadline is August 26, 2026.
