The Danish Data Science Academy (DDSA) is offering competitive PhD and postdoctoral fellowships for visionary and ambitious young data scientists interested in pursuing independent research projects in collaboration with a Danish research environment. These positions are open to candidates from any field of data science, including but not limited to algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and their applications in natural, technical, or life sciences. The fellowships are hosted at leading Danish institutions such as the University of Copenhagen, particularly within the Algorithms and Complexity Section, which focuses on theoretical and applied aspects of computation, data structures, graph algorithms, and optimization.

PhD fellowships are valued at DKK 1.9 million each for three years, while postdoc fellowships are valued at DKK 1.3 million each for two years. Both cover salary and research costs, with no co-funding or industrial positions supported. Applicants must submit a well-defined research proposal aligned with the DDSA research scope, which includes the development of new algorithms, methods, and technologies in data science, as well as innovative applications in areas such as life sciences, health, sustainability, and technical sciences. Projects must be supervised by a principal supervisor at a Danish university, and successful candidates will join a vibrant community of data scientists across Denmark.

Eligibility for the PhD fellowship requires a relevant degree (Bachelor's or Master's, depending on the PhD model), high proficiency in English, and an agreement with a principal supervisor. For postdoc fellowships, applicants must hold a PhD (or have their thesis accepted for defense by June 1, 2026), have received their PhD no more than six years prior to the deadline, and secure a host institution agreement. Both positions require supporting documents from supervisors and host institutions, including statements of support and CVs.

The application deadline for both fellowships is March 4, 2026. Applications must be submitted via the DDSA Funding Portal.
