About this position
Karlstad University, Sweden, is inviting applications for a PhD position in Computer Science with a specialisation in 6G mobile systems and a Postdoctoral Researcher position focused on 6G Internet of Things (IoT) Technologies and Applications. Both positions are part of the Distributed Intelligent Systems & Communications (DISCO) Research Group and contribute to the EU-funded PIONEERS-6G project, which aims to develop energy-efficient, resilient, and secure 6G IoT systems.
The PhD position centers on the modelling, design, analysis, and validation of data-driven solutions for 6G IoT systems. Research topics include scalable radio access, intelligent resource allocation, orchestration across terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, and edge-assisted processing for latency- and energy-constrained IoT services. Emphasis is placed on AI and ML techniques for network optimization, traffic prediction, and autonomous operation in large-scale, heterogeneous 6G environments. The position offers a four-year fully funded contract with a competitive salary and opportunities for teaching and collaboration with leading international researchers.
The Postdoc position focuses on advanced IoT technologies for future 6G systems, including the design of energy-efficient IoT devices, AI-native multi-connectivity schemes, and performance evaluation in challenging IoT scenarios. The role involves both theoretical and experimental research, international collaboration, and dissemination of results. Applicants should have a recent PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with strong knowledge of wireless communications, 5G/6G, IoT, statistics, and AI/ML. The position is a three-year full-time contract funded by the European Union.
Applicants for both positions should demonstrate strong academic backgrounds, relevant technical skills (including programming in Matlab, Python, or C), and the ability to work collaboratively in an international research environment. Good English proficiency is required. The application deadline is April 13, 2026. Applications must be submitted via the university's Varbi recruitment portal, including all required documents such as cover letter, CV, degree certificates, transcripts, thesis, publications, and references.
For more information, visit the official job postings or contact the supervisors. The DISCO group at Karlstad University offers an innovative and supportive environment for research in mobile communication systems, with strong links to European and national research initiatives.
