Amsterdam UMC is recruiting three PhD candidates and one postdoctoral researcher to join innovative projects focused on the immunometabolic basis of chronic diseases and the development of lifestyle interventions for prevention. The positions are based in the departments of Molecular Cell Biology & Immunology and Pathology, within the recently awarded NWA-ORC project “Decoding immune-metabolic homeostasis to better understand chronic diseases (META-IMMUNOTYPES)”. The research aims to unravel the complex interactions between the immune system and metabolism, particularly in metabolic syndrome and related conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and cancer.

PhD candidates will join a large team of clinicians and translational researchers, contributing to biobanking and leading one of three subprojects: (1) multi-layered immune monitoring and biomarker discovery (supervised by Dr. Juan J. Garcia Vallejo), (2) immune-metabolic profiling and the study of circulating factors (supervised by Dr. Rubina Baglio), or (3) pioneering immunometabolism research using advanced cytometry and single-cell assays (supervised by Dr. Jan van den Bossche). Postdoctoral researchers will work on either the META-IMMUNOTYPES project or the T2B-iCARE project, focusing on immune monitoring strategies or the development of tools for B-cell immune-mediated disorders, respectively.

Applicants should have a relevant Master's degree (for PhD) or PhD (for postdoc) in biomedical sciences, molecular biology, medicine, or a related field, with a strong background in immunological and/or immune-metabolic research. Experience with (spectral) flow cytometry, high-dimensional data analysis, and biostatistics is required. The ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment and fluency in English are essential.
