The Universitätsklinikum Aachen (University Hospital RWTH Aachen) in Germany is offering exciting opportunities for both Postdoctoral Researchers and PhD Students in the field of neurodegeneration. The positions are based at the Institute of Neuroanatomy, under the leadership of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Alberto Catanese. The research group focuses on investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular emphasis on ALS and related pathomechanisms.

Research in the lab utilizes advanced methodologies, including human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC), neuronal and organoid models, state-of-the-art microscopy and imaging, multi-omics technologies, and functional neuronal assays. The group is committed to translational research, employing patient-derived models to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical application.

The postdoc position (100%, 38.5 hrs/week) requires a PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, or a related field, with experience in hiPSC, microscopy, or omics. Responsibilities include leading research projects, developing hiPSC-based organoid models, applying for research funding, supervising students, and participating in teaching anatomy. The PhD position (65%, 25 hrs/week) is ideal for candidates with a master's degree in a relevant discipline, preferably with experience in cell culture, imaging, or omics, and a strong motivation for experimental research. The PhD project will focus on investigating pathomechanisms linked to novel, rare ALS variants using human-relevant models.

Both positions are salaried under the German public service scale (EG 13 TV-L), with contracts fixed-term until 31 July 2027 and the possibility of extension.
