PhD and Postdoc Positions in Plant Natural Product Biosynthesis and Synthetic Biology at University of British Columbia University of British Columbia in Canada

The Plant Bioactive Compounds Research (Plant BioCoRe) group at the University of British Columbia, led by Dr. Thu-Thuy Dang, is seeking talented PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to join their team. The group focuses on plant natural product biosynthesis and synthetic biology, integrating biochemistry, chemistry, bioinformatics, and molecular genetics to elucidate and engineer the biosynthesis of valuable small molecules from medicinal plants. Research topics include discovering biosynthetic enzymes and pathways, generating alkaloid structural and functional diversities, and reconstituting natural products metabolism in synthetic biology chassis.

PhD positions are available for international candidates through the Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards, which provide $40,000 per year for three years. Eligible applicants must be currently outside Canada and able to enroll in a UBC doctoral program by January 2027. The research areas align with priority fields such as biotechnology, clean technology, and advanced digital technologies. Postdoctoral positions are available for candidates with their own fellowships.

Applicants should have a background in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or synthetic organic chemistry.
