The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) invites applications for a PhD position in Modeling Edge AI Computer Architectures within the Department of Computer Science. This opportunity is part of the Norwegian Center for Intelligent Computers and Electronics (NICE), a research-driven innovation center funded by the Research Council of Norway and industry partners. The project aims to develop advanced performance and energy models for Edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, supporting both hardware designers and software developers in optimizing Edge AI devices and applications.

As a PhD candidate, you will conduct high-quality research in computer architecture, focusing on modeling and evaluating compute units for Edge AI, including special-purpose, reconfigurable, and general-purpose accelerators. Your work will help guide the configuration of hardware resources and the mapping of AI applications to Edge devices, improving performance, energy efficiency, privacy, and security compared to traditional Cloud AI solutions. The research environment is highly collaborative, involving NTNU, the University of Oslo, and key industry players, with opportunities to participate in international conferences and research stays abroad.

The position offers a gross annual salary of NOK 550,800, favorable pension terms, free basic Norwegian language training, working capital for project implementation, and access to employee benefits. The employment period is three years, with the possibility of up to 12 months of teaching assistant work for suitable candidates.
