PhD Fellow position in Psychology (Gene-Environment Interplay and Neurodevelopment) University of Oslo in Norway

The University of Oslo invites applications for a PhD Fellow position in Psychology, focusing on the gene-environment interplay and neurodevelopment. This opportunity is part of the interdisciplinary Convergence Environment NeuroPathways, a multidisciplinary initiative funded by the University of Oslo. The project integrates genetics, psychology, pharmacology, and educational sciences to advance understanding of neurodevelopmental variability and improve evidence-based and inclusive support strategies across the life course.

As a member of PROMENTA, you will join a dynamic research group dedicated to studying mental health and quality of life from a holistic perspective, encompassing genetics, biology, local communities, and policy. PROMENTA aims to identify factors influencing mental health, understand the origins of social inequalities, and develop effective interventions to promote wellbeing. The research environment offers opportunities for scientific and social engagement, with more than 50 scientific staff members and support from the Research Council of Norway and the Department of Psychology at UiO.

The NeuroPathways Convergence Environment brings together experts from psychology, genetics, pharmacology, education, and clinical research to address complex questions about neurodevelopmental variability. The project leverages Norway’s exceptional registry and cohort data to investigate rising diagnoses of neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and autism, assessment and support processes, intervention effectiveness, and the development of equitable and inclusive support systems. The research bridges biomedical and social science perspectives, examining how genetic predispositions and environmental factors—from clinics to classrooms—jointly shape developmental outcomes.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in psychology or a closely related field, with strong academic performance and research experience. Interest in neurodevelopment, gene-environment interplay, and interdisciplinary research is essential. Proficiency in English is required. The position is full-time, temporary, and based at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway.
