PhD Fellowship in Systems Neuroscience – Hippocampal Circuits and Addiction University of Oslo in Norway

The University of Oslo invites applications for a PhD fellowship in Systems Neuroscience, focusing on the mechanisms of neural circuits and the contribution of specific cell types to behavior. This project aims to investigate how the hippocampus forms spatial memories and how these processes are influenced by addictive substances. The research will employ state-of-the-art in vivo two-photon imaging and electrophysiology to record neuronal activity in rodents performing behavioral tasks, alongside optogenetic techniques to manipulate neural activity.

The successful candidate will join the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, working in an international environment with a team of experts dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of the brain. The lab provides access to advanced microscopy and imaging facilities, and the project is designed to advance understanding of hippocampal function and addiction-related neural processes.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in medical sciences or a related field, and demonstrate a strong interest in systems neuroscience and microscopy. Experience with in vivo imaging, electrophysiology, optogenetics, or rodent behavioral tasks is highly desirable. The position offers a full-time contract with 37.5 hours per week, and is based in Oslo, Norway.
