PhD in Climate Justice, Art-activism, and Land–Water Relationships at University of Twente University of Twente in Netherlands

The University of Twente is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position as part of the JUST ART project, an NWO-funded initiative focused on climate justice and artistic research. The project, titled 'JUST FUTURES – ReStor(y)ing (Un)just Land–Water Relationships Through Art-activism,' explores the intersections of land–water relationships, art-activism, multispecies perspectives, and rurban (rural–urban) dynamics. The research will involve public engagement through exhibitions, performances, and participatory practices, with fieldwork opportunities in Aruba.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Science and Technology Studies (STS), Sustainability Transitions, Political Ecology, Anthropology, Design, Futures Studies, or a related field. A strong interest in climate justice, art-based or participatory research, and excellent English language skills are required (Dutch is desirable). Application materials include a CV, cover letter, writing sample, portfolio of artistic work (if available), names and contact details of two referees, and copies of diplomas and transcripts.

The position is full-time (38–40 hours/week) for four years, with a gross monthly salary between €3,059 and €3,881.
