Trinity College Dublin, Ireland’s leading university and ranked 75th globally (QS World University Rankings 2026), invites applications for a PhD position in the Future Networks and Communications Laboratory. This opportunity is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action project ‘QUESTING’, a pioneering Doctoral Network initiative designed to revolutionize Quantum Technology through interdisciplinary education and research.

The successful candidate will focus on the design of Software Defined Networks (SDN) control planes for quantum systems. The QUESTING program aims to develop a new generation of “Q-System Innovators” by integrating mathematics, physics, computing, and communications engineering with sociocultural and ethical perspectives. The research will address both theoretical and practical challenges, including secure quantum communication, distributed resource management, and sustainable network topologies.

QUESTING’s holistic approach combines participatory research, co-design processes, and industry-academic collaboration, ensuring that research outcomes align with global challenges such as cybersecurity, digital transformation, and equitable access to emerging technologies. The initiative supports the European Union's Quantum Technologies Flagship and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, fostering innovation and preparing Europe for leadership in the quantum revolution.

Applicants should have a strong academic background in computer science, physics, mathematics, communications engineering, or a related field. Experience or interest in quantum technology, SDN, or interdisciplinary research is desirable.
