Ulster University's Nutrition Innovation Centre for Food and Health (NICHE) is offering a fully funded PhD opportunity focused on Nutrition and Obesity Treatment Research. The project investigates how modern obesity therapies, including medication and surgery, influence eating behaviour and food intake in humans. The research aims to answer why modern obesity treatments work, with a particular emphasis on the brain-behavior link and how treatments alter eating behaviors and appetite-regulating brain pathways.

PhD candidates will engage in clinical studies and utilize cutting-edge experimental approaches within a collaborative and supportive research environment. The program offers a multi-faceted research approach, including literature reviews, peptide infusions, and post-surgery data analysis. Students will develop a wide range of skills through specialized training and professional development, notably via the PEACETIME programme, and are encouraged to share their findings at international conferences.

Supervision will be provided by Ruth Price, Alex Miras, and Carel Le Roux, all affiliated with Ulster University. Applicants should have a strong academic background in nutrition, medical science, psychology, biology, or related fields, with experience in clinical studies or research on obesity/eating behaviour considered advantageous.
