Description

The iCARE Lab (Intelligent Computing for Advanced Research in Healthcare) at Kennesaw State University is inviting applications for PhD students to join their research group, led by Dr. Muhammad Imran (Assistant Professor, Data Science & Analytics). The lab focuses on cutting-edge research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data science, and healthcare, with particular emphasis on medical imaging, deep learning, disease detection, segmentation, image registration, AI-assisted cancer screening, and generative models for medical imaging. PhD students in the iCARE Lab will have the opportunity to work on real-world healthcare challenges using advanced AI techniques, participate in high-impact publications, and engage in international research challenges. The lab provides hands-on experience with leading tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, MONAI, and SimpleITK. The broader PhD program in Data Science and Analytics at Kennesaw State University is designed to train the next generation of data science leaders, researchers, and educators, with concentrations available in Computer Science, Statistics, and mHealth. The program curriculum emphasizes programming, data mining, statistical modeling, mathematical foundations, and strong communication skills. Students will engage in project-based work, research, teaching, and internships/practicums. The program is a full-time, in-residence, STEM PhD with a focus on experiential learning and career flexibility, offering both research and practitioner models. Applicants should have a background in Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields, with strong Python programming skills and familiarity with machine learning and deep learning. A minimum GPA of 2.75, GRE scores (minimum quantitative 160, preferred analytical writing 3.5), completion of math courses through calculus II, and proficiency in at least one analytical programming language are required. Application materials include a statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation (at least one academic and one non-academic), and a resume or CV. Qualified students receive a tuition waiver and a research stipend to cover living costs. The application deadline for Fall 2026 is February 1, 2026. Interested candidates should email their CV, best publication (if any), and a brief statement of research interests to [email protected] (cc [email protected]). For more information and to apply, visit the official Kennesaw State University PhD program page.
