About this position
Linköping University invites applications for a PhD position in the Division for Communication Systems (KS), Department of Electrical Engineering (ISY), focusing on the cutting-edge topic of AI security: 'Memory Poisoning in LLM Agents: Foundations, Attacks, and Defenses.' This research addresses the critical security risks posed by memory poisoning attacks in large language model (LLM) agents, which are increasingly deployed in domains such as healthcare, finance, cybersecurity, and autonomous vehicles. The project aims to develop theoretical foundations and practical defenses against these attacks, ensuring the reliability and security of next-generation AI systems.
The position is funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR) and offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of AI security research. You will join a dynamic team led by Assistant Professor Khac-Hoang Ngo (Linköping University), Professor Alexandre Graell i Amat (Chalmers University of Technology), and Dr. Johan Östman (Recorded Future), collaborating with 5 PhD students and 2 postdocs. Research visits to Chalmers and Recorded Future are part of the program, providing exposure to diverse academic and industry environments.

As a PhD student, you will devote most of your time to doctoral studies and research projects, with the possibility of teaching or departmental duties up to 20% of full-time. The employment is initially for one year, renewable for up to four years full-time, with possible extensions based on teaching and departmental contributions. Salary is determined by locally negotiated progression, and comprehensive employment benefits are provided.
