About this position

This PhD position at Monash University offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the development of biomimetic structures as ultrasound contrast agents and deep tissue imaging using photoacoustic contrast agents. The project also explores all-optical photoacoustic sensors for tomographic imaging in tissue and the application of neural networks to correct distortions in acoustic transducers. These research areas are highly interdisciplinary, combining principles from physics, biomedical engineering, and medical science to advance imaging technologies for clinical and research applications.

The research group, led by Dr Alexis Bishop, is focused on innovative approaches to medical imaging, including the design and fabrication of novel contrast agents and sensors that enhance the quality and depth of tissue imaging. The integration of machine learning techniques, such as neural network correction, aims to improve the accuracy and reliability of acoustic transducer performance, addressing challenges in signal distortion and image reconstruction.

Monash University provides a collaborative and supportive environment for postgraduate research, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources. Students will have the opportunity to work closely with experts in the field, participate in interdisciplinary projects, and develop skills in advanced imaging, sensor technology, and computational methods.

Applicants should have a strong academic background in physics, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline. Experience with medical imaging, sensor technology, or neural networks is highly desirable. Candidates must meet Monash University's English language proficiency requirements and hold a bachelor's or master's degree with high academic standing.

To apply, review the available PhD positions on the Monash University website and submit your application online. For further details or to discuss alternative project arrangements, contact Dr Alexis Bishop at [email protected]. The position is open until filled, and early applications are encouraged.
