About this position
This PhD position is offered by the Diagnostic Radiology research group at Lund University, located at Skane University Hospital (SUS) Malmö. The group, including the interdisciplinary LUCI (Lund University breast Cancer Imaging) team, is led by Professor Sophia Zackrisson and focuses on innovative clinical imaging methods for breast cancer diagnostics, with particular emphasis on cancer screening and artificial intelligence. The Department of Translational Medicine is seeking a doctoral student for the DBTMI project, which aims to advance breast cancer screening by developing and clinically validating a prototype system for simultaneous digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and mechanical imaging (MI).
The project’s objectives include optimizing the DBTMI prototype, conducting a clinical study comparing DBTMI and digital mammography (DM) with 600 women, and exploring the integration of AI with DBTMI. As a doctoral student, you will be admitted to the medical science doctoral program and employed by Lund University. Your research will involve computer simulations, physical experiments, and clinical studies in regional radiology departments, working within a multidisciplinary and internationally collaborative team. You are expected to participate in international conferences, group meetings, and seminars, and may also supervise master’s students or teach.
The position is a four-year, full-time fixed-term employment, starting December 1, 2025 or by agreement, and includes salary, government benefits, generous vacation, and occupational pension. Applicants must have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in biomedical engineering, medical physics, computer science, or a related field, strong English language skills, and experience in collaborative projects. Knowledge of medical imaging technology, physics, and programming (Matlab, Python) is advantageous.
Applications are submitted via the university’s recruitment system and must include a personal motivation letter, CV, degree certificates, and supporting documents. The workplace values communication, collaboration, and a positive, respectful environment.
