About this position
Radboud University in the Netherlands is offering a PhD position in Molecular Biology, focusing on advanced molecular techniques and cutting-edge biomedical research in cancer proteomics. The successful candidate will join the Vermeulen Lab, a dynamic and internationally recognized research group specializing in state-of-the-art proteomics technologies to study protein regulatory networks in cancer. The project is part of the Oncode Accelerator Growth Fund and aims to accelerate the development of new cancer therapies by investigating protein–protein interactions and dynamic protein states in primary cancer tissues, organoids, and clinical samples.
Key research activities include optimizing proteomic workflows for heterogeneous samples, establishing intratumoral heterogeneity maps using spatial proteomic profiling, and exploring single-cell proteomics approaches. The candidate will collaborate closely with a postdoctoral researcher to develop proximity-labelling strategies for charting dynamic protein–protein interactions. The findings are expected to inform new hypotheses on epigenetic control in cancer and contribute to translational goals of identifying actionable molecular targets for drug development.
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field, with strong interest and experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, cancer biology, and gene regulation. Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular cloning is required; prior experience with mass spectrometry-based techniques is advantageous. The position offers a competitive salary starting at €3,059 per month, increasing to €3,881 in the fourth year, plus holiday and end-of-year bonuses, flexible working hours, extra annual leave, sports/cultural discounts, pension plan, and training opportunities. Dual Career Coaching may be available for partners.
The application deadline is 04 January 2026. Candidates should apply online via the Radboud University job portal, addressing their application to Professor Michiel Vermeulen and including all required documents. Interviews will be held in January and February 2026. This opportunity provides excellent training in a collaborative, international environment with strong research exposure and access to clinical material and pharmaceutical industry connections.
