This PhD position is offered within the Infection Medicine Research Group at Lund University, led by Dr. Johan Malmström. The group is dedicated to advancing proteomics methods to enable precision medicine approaches for sepsis, a life-threatening condition.

The team comprises senior researchers, postdocs, and PhD students with expertise spanning clinical medicine, cell and molecular biology, proteomics, and bioinformatics. The PhD project integrates immunological insights with systems biology and consists of three main parts: (1) evaluating proteomic changes induced by molecular substances to identify new drug candidates for sepsis treatment; (2) investigating immune cell metabolic processes and immunological stimulations by examining temporal proteomic changes during immune responses; and (3) combining these findings with novel patient stratification methods to support data-driven precision medicine in sepsis.

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in biomedicine or equivalent, with documented experience in large-scale quantitative and functional proteomics, cell sample preparation, and strong skills in data analysis using R and bioinformatics. Eligibility for third-cycle studies requires a second-cycle degree or equivalent, with at least 240 credits (60 at second-cycle level), or equivalent knowledge. The doctoral studentship is regulated by Swedish law, with a four-year tenure and salary plus benefits.
