About this position

The Laboratory of Synthetic Polymer Chemistry (LCPS) at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, led by Professor Suong Nguyen, is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in Synthetic Polymer Chemistry. The group focuses on developing new catalysts and polymerization methods to achieve precise control over polymerization, discover new reactivities, and create functional and sustainable materials. Research is conducted at the interface of polymer chemistry, catalysis, and synthetic organic chemistry, with a strong emphasis on mechanistic insights and computational studies.

The PhD position offers comprehensive training in diverse research areas, a supportive and inclusive working environment, and opportunities to collaborate with leading research groups at EPFL and beyond. Networking is facilitated through the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) Catalysis Center, seminars, and conferences. The successful candidate will receive an internationally competitive stipend for four years at a 100% work rate.

Ideal candidates should hold a four-year Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science. Experience in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, materials science, and related fields is preferred, especially with small molecule and polymer synthesis. Familiarity with standard structural characterization techniques (NMR, IR, mass spectrometry, chromatography) and material characterization techniques (GPC, tensile testing, rheology, DMA, DSC, TGA) is advantageous but not mandatory. Strong communication skills in English are required.
