About this position

The Universitätsmedizin Frankfurt is recruiting for a PhD position in Translational Cancer Biology within the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. This opportunity is embedded in an elite interdisciplinary team focused on decoding dysregulated gene-expression programs that drive high-risk pediatric cancers. The research group, led by Prof. Dr. Christian Braun and under the direction of Prof. Jan-Henning Klusmann, integrates advanced functional genomics, CRISPR-based genetic perturbation screens, and deep molecular profiling (including transcriptomics and proteomics) to identify novel therapeutic vulnerabilities in tumors lacking effective treatments.

The successful candidate will design and execute large-scale CRISPR-based screens in patient-derived and engineered cancer models, analyze multidimensional datasets using state-of-the-art computational approaches, and functionally validate candidate pathways. The project aims to bridge the gap between big data and bedside application, contributing to the next generation of pediatric oncology diagnostics and treatments. The structured research environment ensures doctoral fellows develop technical mastery and analytical rigor, working closely with clinicians, molecular biologists, and computational scientists.

Applicants must have an excellent Master’s degree in Life Sciences or a related field, with a strong background in molecular biology techniques and basic bioinformatics. Experience with CRISPR, transcriptomics, proteomics, or computational analysis is advantageous. The position is initially offered for one year, with a planned extension for the full PhD duration, and is salaried according to the German collective agreement (TV-G-U, EG13 65%).

To apply, submit your CV and cover letter via the Frankfurt University Hospital career portal by March 8, 2026. This is a premier opportunity for motivated researchers to contribute to translational innovation in pediatric oncology at one of Germany’s leading medical faculties.
